Mrs. Amelida Cantu Sepeda, 74, of Red Oak, Texas was surrounded by her children as she departed this life quietly on Friday, June 23, 2017 after a long battle with breast cancer.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Emit Sepeda, parents Eugenio Cantu and Imogene Todd Cantu, brothers, Abe, Felix, David and Eugene “Babo” Cantu.
She was the oldest daughter of Eugenio and Imogene Cantu, born on April 14, 1943. She graduated from Valley Baptist Academy in Harlingen, Texas in 1964. Amelida married former VBA student and Navy Radio Operator, Emit Sepeda on November 7, 1964. Their marriage was blessed with three children.
At her death and in keeping with her wishes her body was donated to Southwest Medical Center for the advancement of science. May her sacrifice one day assist in finding a cure for the dreaded disease that took her life.
Amelida is survived by her three children, son Emit Sepeda, Jr. and wife Taryn of Valley Center, KS, daughter Jo’Landa Murphy and husband Kelly of Red Oak, TX, daughter Diana Sepeda Buckmaster and husband Randy of Winfield, KS, six grandchildren, Jason Darin Gustin, Rebecca Ann Murphy, Samantha Ann Sepeda, Dalton Garrett Murphy, Zachary Brook Gustin, Alejandro Emiterio “AJ” Sepeda, one great-grandchild, Alexander James Gustin, brother Joe Cantu and wife Lucia of Lubbock, TX, brother Ruben Cantu of Dallas, Texas, sister Mary Cantu-Burdick and husband Randy of Sisters, OR, sister Josie Cantu of Bremerton, WA and many Cantu – Sepeda family and friends.
We would like to acknowledge Texas Oncology – Baylor Dallas, Dr. Joanne Blum and staff, Dr. Scott Cheek and staff, Bristol Hospice of Waxahachie and staff, thank you for the wonderful care and treatment given to this strong, sweet, spirited mother, sister, aunt and friend. Though this is not the journey we would have chosen, she was truly blessed by the love and care given.
A Memorial Service to honor Amelida will be held at First Baptist Church of Red Oak, Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 2 p.m., located 320 E. Ovilla Road, Red Oak, TX 75154.
