OBITUARY: In celebration of the life of Phillip “Phil” Mohundro

Phillip Whitton Mohundro, 61 of Ferris, Texas passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018. 

Phil was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer which was not treatable. After a brief hospitalization, his family opted to bring him home on hospice care. His final moments were spent surrounded by loving family.

Phil was born on October 16, 1956 to A.Y. and Dollye Mohundro. He graduated from Ferris High School in 1975. 

After high school Phil went on to The Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. Upon his graduation he began working at Green Funeral Home in his hometown of Ferris, and eventually went on to Restland Memorial Park where he worked for approximately 22 years. 

He was last employed by Reliant Gas who graciously stood by him through his illness.

Phil loved cooking and being with his family and friends. 

He especially enjoyed being with his motorcycle brothers riding across the country enjoying the vastness of the open road.

He is survived by his parents A.Y. and Dollye Mohundro. Daughters Loren Mohundro Cook and husband, Jon of Arlington, Texas, Sydnie Mohundro Talley and husband Bronson of Ferris, Texas. Phil was also survived by his two granddaughters Kennedi Ann and Arebelle and grandson, Axyl who lovingly knew him as Papa along with aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, many friends and brothers.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Arthur Sr. and Essie Mohundro, James and Edna Whitton, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Roxanne.

A visitation was held May 16, 2018 at his home at 204 Mimosa Ferris, Texas, and graveside services were held May 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Ferris Memorial Park North.
