OBITUARY: Bobby Joe Menton, September 10, 1936 – September 2, 2016

Bobby Joe Menton, 79, passed away in Kaufman, Texas on Friday, September 2, 2016.

Bobby was born in Rice, Texas on September 10, 1936 to Fred and Maebell (Emmert) Menton. He grew up in Rice and attended school there. He served his country proudly in the United States Army.

He drove a truck for Lone Star Beer for ten years and enjoyed farming and ranching over the years.

He is survived by two sons: Eddie Menton and wife, Lisa, and Joe Menton; two grandchildren: David Clevenger and wife, Miranda, and Aaron Clevenger; great-grandson, Eli Clevenger; brother, Marcus Menton and wife, Linda along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Maebell Menton, brothers, Narvil Gene and Albert David and sister, Rachel Parker.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Marcus Menton officiating.

DAVID RAY DOSS: February 24, 1953 – September 28, 2016

David Ray Doss age 63, of Rockett, passed away Wednesday evening September 28, 2016 at his home. He was born February 24, 1953 in Gainesville, Texas to Francis Alexander and Zofia (Dedek) Doss. David graduated from Gainesville High School in 1971 and he enlisted in the U. S. Navy that same year. He met his wife, Larissa in 1988 and they were married on February 17, 1990 in Ferris, Texas. He worked for Northrop Grumman for 10 years as an Avionic Tech. He also worked as an Electronic Tech for 18 years for Communications Test Design. David was a proud member of the Girl Scouts and was an archery range master for them. He loved photography, camping, hiking and building models. He was a very sensitive, caring and trusting person who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Larissa Doss of Rockett; son, Daniel Ingram of North Richland Hills; daughter, Megan Doss and fiancé Dillon Richards; brother, Frank Doss, Jr. and wife Judy; niece, Phyllis; nephew, Mark Doss and wife Karen and their son, Dylan; two brothers-in-law, Ray Ingram and wife Brenda and Leonard Ingram and wife Natalie and his mother-in-law, Barbara Ingram.  David was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Lonnie Ingram and a nephew, Adam Reilly.

Visitation for family and friends was 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home.

Funeral services were 12 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in the chapel of the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home with Philip Washburn officiating. Interment followed at 2:30 p.m. at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Eddie was born in Dallas, TX to the late Early Beasley and Ruby Mahone Beasley.

Eddie is survived by his longtime companion, Cathy Jackson Ardoin of Nederland; sons, Ricky Neill Beasley and Donnie Wayne Beasley of Bedford, TX, Bradley Scott Beasley and wife, Carrie of Columbia, TN; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother, Jack Beasley and wife, Molly of Georgia; sister, Iris Wadley of Dallas, TX.

Dottie was born April 12, 1926 in Rotan, Texas and passed away December 8, 2016.

Hazel Mae Lee

Hazel Lee passed away peacefully on Jan. 26, 2017 with her family by her side at Red Oak Health and Rehab.

She was born on July 21, 1929 in Mississippi County, Missouri. Hazel worked at the Dallas County Health Department and Southern Pacific Railroad. She loved reading, watching Dallas Cowboy football and taking care of her family, friends and animals.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Lee, and son, William (Billy) Lee. She is survived by 1 brother, Alfred Baker; 2 sisters, Bobbie Cortivo and Rita Walker; 2 daughters Darlene Lee and Kathy Harrington and husband, Linny and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

A farewell service led by Pastor Jack Ables of Eastridge Baptist Church will be held at DFW National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation, Eastridge Baptist Church of Red Oak or the Ferris Public Library.

Fred J. Huskerson, 80, of Ferris, Texas, passed away February 7, 2017, in Waxahachie, Texas. 

Fred was born in Gatesville, Texas on February 3, 1937, the son of the late Audie Phebe (Putnam) and Guy Marion Huskerson.

Fred is survived by one daughter; Lori Baker of Fort Worth, Texas.

Memorial graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Bristol Cemetery, with Pastor Rick Ayers officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Bristol Cemetery, 100 Church Street Bristol, TX 75119.

There will be coffee and dessert following the graveside at the Old Brickyard Golf Course in Ferris, Texas.

Robbie Kay Baxter Hobbs, 55, of Ferris, Texas, passed away on March 18, 2017 in Dallas, Texas surrounded by her family.

Robbie Kay was born in Dallas, Texas on August 29, 1961, the daughter of Jackie (Sissy) Curry Baxter and Billy Bob (Bob) Baxter.

Robbie Kay graduated in the top of her class from Ferris High School in 1979, and went on to study music at Baylor University. Robbie served the students of Ferris Junior High for several years as the choir director and computer instructor and later served for 8 years as a dispatcher for the Ferris Police Department. She devoted her life to the town she loved and the people who lived there.

Robbie Kay was a devout follower of Jesus and a United Methodist. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Ferris, serving with the United Methodist Women (UMW), singing with the choir, and playing in the handbell choir for several years. She served terms as FUMC Ferris’ UMW President and taught Sunday School classes.

All who knew Robbie Kay, knew she lived to serve others, and believed her most important work in this life was being a mother. She co-led her daughter’s Girl Scouts Troop, taught her Sunday School classes, volunteered on field trips and youth events, lead Vacation Bible School classes, and never missed a play or performance.

Robbie loved to read, scrapbook, travel, watch old movies, sing, listen to music with her husband, and play games and do crafts with her grandson. She shared with her daughter a love of musical theatre and saw more plays and musicals than they could count. She was a wonderful wife, Mama, and Kay Kay, and she will be dearly missed.

Robbie Kay is survived by her husband of over 32 years, Larry Hobbs of Ferris, Texas; and daughter, Curri and husband, Nathan Hairston of Red Oak, Texas, and their son, her precious grandson, Liam Hairston.

She is preceded in death by her parents and uncle T.H. Baxter (Uncle T.).

Visitation was held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Ferris, with Rev. Mary Gean Cope and Rev. Denise Luper officiating.

Norma Ann Jones, 86, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 in Dallas.

Norma was born on March 6, 1931 in Clarkson, Texas to Gus Jahns and Anna Sitz Jahns. She graduated from Cameron High School.

A resident of Dallas since 2013, Norma resided in Arlington prior to that, and was a former resident of Red Oak. She worked at Fort Worth National Bank and Exchange Park Bank in Dallas.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Mitchell Ray Jones on July 18, 2015; her parents; brothers, Theodore Jahns and John Joe Jahns; and sisters, Florence Lemke and June Hadeler. Survivors: Sons, Mitchell Craig Jones and wife, Dowanne, and Gary Jones and wife, Laurie; daughter, Janelle Brinck and husband, Tom; brother, Monroe Jahns and wife, Ruth; sister, Cora Mae Sell; sister-in-law, Mary Helen Schigut and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Bryan Jones and wife, Rebecca, Nicholas Jones and wife, Jennifer, and John Brinck; and great-grandchildren, Kate, Dawson Claire, Henry and Claire Jones.

OBITUARY: Amelida Cantu Sepeda, April 14, 1943 – June 23, 2017

Mrs. Amelida Cantu Sepeda, 74, of Red Oak, Texas was surrounded by her children as she departed this life quietly on Friday, June 23, 2017 after a long battle with breast cancer.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Emit Sepeda, parents Eugenio Cantu and Imogene Todd Cantu, brothers, Abe, Felix, David and Eugene “Babo” Cantu.

She was the oldest daughter of Eugenio and Imogene Cantu, born on April 14, 1943. She graduated from Valley Baptist Academy in Harlingen, Texas in 1964. Amelida married former VBA student and Navy Radio Operator, Emit Sepeda on November 7, 1964. Their marriage was blessed with three children. 

At her death and in keeping with her wishes her body was donated to Southwest Medical Center for the advancement of science.  May her sacrifice one day assist in finding a cure for the dreaded disease that took her life. 

Amelida is survived by her three children, son Emit Sepeda, Jr. and wife Taryn of Valley Center, KS, daughter Jo’Landa Murphy and husband Kelly of Red Oak, TX, daughter Diana Sepeda Buckmaster and husband Randy of Winfield, KS, six grandchildren, Jason Darin Gustin, Rebecca Ann Murphy, Samantha Ann Sepeda, Dalton Garrett Murphy, Zachary Brook Gustin, Alejandro Emiterio “AJ” Sepeda, one great-grandchild, Alexander James Gustin, brother Joe Cantu and wife Lucia of Lubbock, TX, brother Ruben Cantu of Dallas, Texas, sister Mary Cantu-Burdick and husband Randy of Sisters, OR, sister Josie Cantu of Bremerton, WA and many Cantu – Sepeda family and friends.

OBITUARY: Sue Turner, October 11, 1930 – November 18, 2017

Effie Sue Turner, age 87 of Ferris, Texas passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Turner was born on October 11, 1930 in Palmer, Texas to Floyd and Ruby Warren. She graduated from Palmer High School in 1947.

She married John H. Turner, Jr. on November 1, 1947, and the couple just recently celebrated 70 years of marriage together. John and Sue made their home in John’s hometown of Ferris, Texas where they raised two sons.

In her early years, she worked as a homemaker, and later began working at Sears Retail Store in downtown Dallas, followed by Data Documents in Hutchins, Texas for 16 years. After retiring from Data Documents, she worked at the State Fair of Texas, and she had a brief stint as editor of the Ferris Wheel, formerly the local newspaper in Ferris.

Mrs. Turner was a leader in the Circle 4-H Club in Ellis County while her sons were 4-H members. She was also a Cub Scout leader and she was dynamically involved with the Ellis County Farm Bureau organization. She continued her service and support of Ellis County 4-H, Ferris FFA and the Boy Scouts of America while her grandchildren were involved in these organizations many years later.

Sue was active with the Ellis County Republican party and was a founding member of the Ellis County Republican Women. Over the years she received various awards and accolades, and she was most recently honored by the Texas Federation of Republican Women at the 2016 Texas GOP Convention for her outstanding service to the Republican Party.

The Turners were members and previously attended Ferris Baptist Fellowship (formerly First Southern Baptist Church) in Ferris where Sue played the piano and organ and was the church secretary at one time. The couple had most recently been attending church at the Cowboy Church of Ellis County in Waxahachie. She remained strong in her faith over the years.

Several years after putting both sons through college, she commuted to Texas A&M Commerce and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industry and Technology in 1984.

Designing and building parade floats, photography, woodworking and crafts were some of Sue’s favorite activities. She also enjoyed campaigning for candidates she supported and she enjoyed volunteering as an election judge for various elections over the years.

She is preceded in death by her older sister, Floydene Lenamond, her son Dennis, and her parents.

Mrs. Turner is survived by her husband John, son Terry and wife Nancy of College Station, ten grandchildren including Melody Allen and husband Donny of Waxahachie, Xan Turner of Dallas, Hamilton Turner of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Ty Turner of College Station, niece Valerie Stanton of Red Oak, nephew Larry Slade of Bristol, a very special sister-in-law Mayfair Mullican of Ferris, other loving in-laws, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held on Monday, November 20th at Green Funeral Home in Ferris, and the funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 21, also at Green Funeral Home in Ferris, followed by a graveside service at Ferris Memorial Park North cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Ferris Memorial Park North cemetery fund.

OBITUARY: Pamela Kay Maxwell, May 18, 1944 – April 21, 2018

Pamela Kay Maxwell passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018. Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday April 28, 2018 at 3 p.m. at the Lone Star Cowboy Church, 1011 East Ovilla Road, Red Oak, Texas, 75154.

Pamela was born on May 18, 1944 in Harlingen, Texas then later moved to Waco. While she was young, she found love in a man named Ron and moved with him to the small town of Ferris, Texas.

Pamela was an insurance agent for several years, then she owned Jordan’s Daycare for 18 years.

Pamela and Ron traveled the world together. They enjoyed going on cruises and seeing the beautiful sites this world has to offer.

Pamela enjoyed playing dominos and Skip-Bo, watching 70’s game shows, watching the grandkids swim and listening to Elvis Presley.

Pamela was a devoted Christian woman who gave guidance and advice whenever she could. When giving advice, she was very direct and honest. Pamela was a very loving, smart and charismatic woman. Anyone who walked into her life, was loved and cared by her until she passed on April 21.

We all loved and cared for her and will continue to do so through our memories. She was the best grandparent we could have ever asked for. God blessed us with her on earth and we can’t wait to be dancing in heaven with her when we meet again.

Pamela is preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie D. Maxwell; parents, Patricia and Roy Jordan and her sisters, Patsy Yantz and Paula Jordan. She is survived by her children, John Williams, Troy and Janice Choina and Richard Maxwell; grandchildren, Ashley Flynn, Christina Meisell, Manda Forester, Lauren Gordon, Christina Chapman, Kayla Williams, Olivia Williams, Kyndale Williams; great- grandchildren, Alexis McGuire, Vanna and Joel Forester and Jaydan and Windell Goodwin; loved ones and special friends, Paula Flynn, David Jackson, Stacie Smith, Bill Roberts, Mike and Christy Lunday, Mike Lunday Jr., Brianna Lunday, Nathan Lunday, Dalton Lunday, Patsy and Charles Wilkins, Lilly Wooldridge, Jacob Wiggins, Matthew Wiggins, Charlie and Austin Buchanan and Samantha Koh.

OBITUARY: In celebration of the life of Phillip “Phil” Mohundro

Phillip Whitton Mohundro, 61 of Ferris, Texas passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018. 

Phil was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer which was not treatable. After a brief hospitalization, his family opted to bring him home on hospice care. His final moments were spent surrounded by loving family.

Phil was born on October 16, 1956 to A.Y. and Dollye Mohundro. He graduated from Ferris High School in 1975. 

After high school Phil went on to The Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. Upon his graduation he began working at Green Funeral Home in his hometown of Ferris, and eventually went on to Restland Memorial Park where he worked for approximately 22 years. 

He was last employed by Reliant Gas who graciously stood by him through his illness.

Phil loved cooking and being with his family and friends. 

He especially enjoyed being with his motorcycle brothers riding across the country enjoying the vastness of the open road.

He is survived by his parents A.Y. and Dollye Mohundro. Daughters Loren Mohundro Cook and husband, Jon of Arlington, Texas, Sydnie Mohundro Talley and husband Bronson of Ferris, Texas. Phil was also survived by his two granddaughters Kennedi Ann and Arebelle and grandson, Axyl who lovingly knew him as Papa along with aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, many friends and brothers.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Arthur Sr. and Essie Mohundro, James and Edna Whitton, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Roxanne.

A visitation was held May 16, 2018 at his home at 204 Mimosa Ferris, Texas, and graveside services were held May 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Ferris Memorial Park North.

Mary Catherine Hollingsworth Williams, of Red Oak was born to John and Catherine Hollingsworth in Corsicana on Oct. 8, 1943. She died at her home Thursday evening, June 7, 2018. A graduate of Corsicana schools, Baylor Dental College, a former Miss Cotton Queen in Corsicana, and a dental hygienist in Red Oak, Ferris and Highland Park.

Preceded in death by her son: Dr. Charles I. Williams, III, her survivors included: her husband: Dr. Charles Williams of Red Oak, daughters: Rachel Hoover and her husband: Tim of Red Oak, Dr.  Gina (Virginia) Williams of Waxahachie, grandchildren: Lauren Hoover, Zach Hoover, Alli Hoover, Claudia Williams, Olivia Williams, daughter-in-law: Sherilyn Williams of Dallas, brothers: Dr. John L. Hollingsworth and wife: Linda of Dallas,  Dr. Jack Hollingsworth and wife: Becky of Corsicana, and Dr. Bill Hollingsworth and wife Gloria of Corsicana.

Visitation was from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12 at Trinity Nazarene Church, 611 N. Cedar Ridge, Duncanville, TX.

Funeral Services followed at 11 a.m. there at the Church. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana.

He was born on January 21, 1949 in Ennis, Texas.

Larry loved being in his game room playing pool and spending time with his family. He worked as a mechanic and was also a truck driver.

He served our country in the United States Army and was in the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his sons, Billy Slade and Joey Slade and his wife, Monica; his sister, Valerie Mitchell Stanton; his grandchildren, Mariah Slade Shortnacy and her husband, Dustin, Joey Slade, Jr., Izacc Slade, and Emery Slade.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Gordon W. Slade and Floydene Slade Lenamond; also by his brothers, Donald Lynn Slade and James Gordon Slade.

Larry recently found out he was going to be a great-grandpa and was very excited.

A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Palmer Cemetery, under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie.

Edward Daniel Auger

Edward Daniel Auger passed away peacefully at his home in Ferris, Texas on Thursday, July 19, 2018, joining his wife Karen and his Lord and Savior at the age of 75. Born in Oakland, California on March 9, 1943, he is lovingly remembered and survived by his three children: Kathryn Shade, Debora Morgan, and Matthew Auger and their spouses, his grandchildren: Christian, Brandon, Ben, Tyler, Caden, Brayden and Abigail, and his first great-grandchild, Jackson.

Since retiring from JCPenney after 35 years, Ed enjoyed family and friends, dancing, playing bridge, tennis, card games, visits to the Choctaw Nation, and photography. As an active member of the Plano Photography Club, he held various offices including President. Recently, Ed was appointed to the Ferris Chamber of Commerce.

A celebration of life will be on Saturday, August 11 at 2:00 at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 President George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to The Ed Auger Memorial Scholarship, that will be granted to a motivated Photography student. Services for Darrell W. Bookman, 75, of Tyler will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Green Funeral Home in Ferris Texas.

The family will receive friends at the visitation starting at 2 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. with Troy Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Ferris Memorial Park North Cemetery following the services.

Mr. Bookman passed away on August 25th, 2018 in Tyler. He was born on January 23,1943 in El Paso, Texas to Lois Bookman(Dalrymple) and Floyd Bookman.

Mr. Bookman was a graduate of Ferris High School, attended Navarro Junior College and was a graduate of North Texas State University. 

He retired from the Xerox Corporation after 20+ years. He held various positions in Dallas, Denton, Ft. Worth and Tyler.

Darrell loved the game of golf. His ultimate goal was to play as many courses as he could.

He remembered every hole he ever played and loved to share memories of his play. He enjoyed visiting with friends at his favorite local restaurant or dive, as well as an occasional card game. He relished in the time spent with his grandkids.

He was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lois; and sister Jean Conner.

He is survived by his loving son Brad Bookman, wife Leslie and grandchildren Trent and Addison Bookman all of Whitehouse, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Brad Bookman, Jim Papryskar, Mitch Patrick, Gary Dempsey, Doug Shores and David Matheny.
